This story comes to us from Heather Firth in Virginia who made the transition to an electric vehicle and hasn’t looked back since.

In 2017, I was taking the local commuter rail for work and leaving a minivan at the lot every day. It was so silly to drive a big 7-person vehicle to sit in a lot all day. I had a friend who had a Smart for Two Electric and she loved it, so I decided to take the leap and get one too.

My favorite part about owning an EV is always having a full “tank” every time I go to drive. I don’t have to think about stopping at a gas station unless I want to grab a snack. In 2021 I bought a Chevy Bolt EV and installed a duo charger so I can charge 2 cars at once. I do most of my charging at home since I now work remotely.

To anyone considering purchasing an EV, do it! EVs are getting to a price point and range/efficiency where there’s not much reason to NOT buy one if you are in the market. If you’re interested, talk to someone who has an EV. Most EV owners are happy to share their stories. I’ve talked to lots of folks. My best encounter was with a group of gentlemen in Indiana who were trash-talking EVs while eating breakfast. I went over and said “I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation about EVs. If you’d like to see one, mine is parked right outside. I’ll answer any questions you have.” About half of them came out and by the end one was talking about getting one for his wife. SCORE!

I’ll never go back to a gas car. I’m thinking of a used Leaf to replace an aging Prius my kids use. My Bolt is still like new but when I’m looking for a replacement, I’ll get an EV. It’s important for us to do what we can for the environment.
