Powering Florida Schools with Solar: Expanding Access to Savings, STEM Education, and Job Training

Join Generation180 and Solar United Neighbors to learn about solar savings can transform school districts in Florida. Upcoming legislation could enable Florida to scale up on solar and generate immense utility bill savings to reinvest into teacher salaries, technology, and students.

Florida’s legislature has an opportunity to empower municipalities, schools, and nonprofits to use Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to go solar with no upfront costs. This solar financing arrangement is enabled in 28 states, but not yet in Florida.

Hear from the School District of Osceola County, which boasts the first net-zero energy school in the state, about how this policy would benefit the district. Learn how districts in other states are using PPAs to go 100% solar and realize $43 million in savings over 20 years.

Speakers:

  • Marc Clinch, Chief Facilities Officer, Osceola County School District, FL
  • Dr. Gabriel Trujillo, Superintendent, Tucson Unified School District, AZ
  • Dr. Peter Gretz, Superintendent, Middlesex County Public Schools, VA
