Generation180

Generation180 is a national non-profit organization based in Charlottesville, VA, working to inspire individuals to take action on clean energy in their homes and communities. We focus on storytelling and partner with trusted messengers—including comedians, influencers, and other creatives—to reach new audiences and inspire action. We also run education campaigns to educate people about the benefits of solar, electric vehicles, and other clean energy solutions.

Your Opportunity

Generation180 is seeking a Communications Intern for Spring 2026 (as early as January), with the possibility of extending into the summer. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience inside a fast-paced nonprofit that uses creative storytelling, cultural engagement, and community organizing to accelerate the American clean energy transition.

You will work closely with our Communications team to support campaigns that engage comedians, influencers, local school leaders, and community advocates—helping us inspire everyday people to take meaningful climate action. From crafting digital content to supporting clean energy education campaigns, you will contribute directly to projects that shape public understanding and drive real-world impact.

By the end of the internship, you will have a strong understanding of how individuals and communities can play a pivotal role in advancing a more just and equitable clean energy future.

Key Responsibilities

The intern will support the Generation180 team in the following ways:

  • Monitor and summarize relevant federal and state policy developments that impact Generation180’s work.
  • Contribute to the creation of digital and written content, including social media posts, blogs, newsletters, and email campaigns.
  • Assist with volunteer engagement efforts, including support for Generation180’s Ambassador networks and online communities.
  • Collaborate across teams to provide support for multiple campaigns, including electric transportation, clean energy equity, and public engagement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant experience and coursework in any of the following fields: communications, digital marketing, sustainability, environmental science, education, business, or a related field.
  • Prior professional or volunteer experience related to communications, working with influencers, digital media, energy, environment, solar, or electric transportation advocacy campaigns.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proven ability to take initiative, think critically, and problem solve.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent research, communication, and writing skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to collaborate with a team.
  • Passion for Generation180’s mission.
  • Bonus: Experience or interest in digital media, work with influencers, or is very engaged online.
