It is time to pass meaningful climate protection legislation

Voice your Support for the Inflation Reduction Act

After many months of negotiation, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced agreement on a legislative package: The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. If passed, it would put the United States on the path to reducing emissions at least 40% from 2005 levels by 2030. With an estimated $369 billion in climate and energy security investments, it would be the single biggest climate investment in U.S. history.

That’s why we need you to urge your representatives to pass the Inflation Reduction Act with amendments to eliminate fossil fuel provisions.

What does this bill mean for you?

The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 is a victory for climate policy and hard-working Americans. It would lower both healthcare and energy costs, ramp up investments to combat climate change, and make clean energy technologies more affordable for consumers.

Here are a few ways it can bring down energy costs for you:

  • Home electrification and efficiency incentives: $9 billion is allocated for rebate programs to electrify home appliances and for home energy efficiency retrofits. New tax deductions and credits will be available to make homes energy efficient.
  • Tax credit for residential solar and battery storage: For 10 years, homeowners can get a 30% tax credit on the purchase of solar energy systems and battery storage.
  • Electric vehicle credits: Individuals under the income threshold can receive $4,000 credit for used EVs and up to $7,500 credit for new EVs. Credits can be utilized by dealers to reduce costs at point of sale.

This bill is still a compromise with a fossil fuel-funded senator, and it isn’t perfect. Yet, the balance is overwhelmingly in favor of climate protection—so this is crucial to pass.
