Jason Bing is a licensed architect, focused on the design, planning and implementation of healthy, high performance 21st century school buildings and capital improvements in the Ann Arbor Public Schools. The district includes 32 educational buildings and 4 additional support facilities, totaling over 3.6M SF. Currently, the district owns and operates 10 rooftop solar arrays, with three more installations anticipated this year, which in total will exceed 2 MW of DC rated capacity. The district also operates 3 geothermal HVAC heating and cooling systems, and anticipates breaking ground on the first of eight* all-electric net-zero ready new school buildings in 2024 (*currently in planning with more to come). With a recent commitment to green electricity purchased through the local utility, the district will offset the entirety of its Scope 2 emissions beginning in 2024. The district adopted an Environmental Sustainability Framework in 2022 and has taken additional steps to invest in electric school buses and charging infrastructure, recycling improvements, non-toxic materials, urban forestry, and expansion of the Freeman Environmental Education Center.
