Looking Ahead — A Note From Gen180’s Executive Director

Looking Ahead — A Note From Gen180’s Executive Director

Whether you’re feeling inspired to take action or dismayed from last week’s election results, your energy matters. Generation180 was founded to build a clean energy constituency to benefit all Americans. Our mission remains the same: we inspire and equip individuals to take action on clean energy. Generation180’s partners, funders, staff, and Ambassadors are committed to working together to build upon our collective success to make our clean energy future a reality. We might just have to work a bit harder.

But momentum is on our side. Millions of Americans are already switching to electric cars and making home upgrades that save them money while reducing pollution. Schools and town halls are going solar and electrifying their school buses and fleets. Public support for clean energy – which brings hundreds of thousands of new jobs, economic investment, and energy independence – remains strong across the political spectrum. Social norms are changing as individuals are talking about electric vehicles (EVs) and solar with their neighbors. Clean energy has taken hold.

Cost savings, new jobs, protecting our environment, and innovation: these are benefits that all Americans can enjoy from clean energy progress. But this message has not yet been received by enough Americans. Republican Congressional districts, including Southeast states, have seen four times as many clean energy investments from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) – $161 billion – compared to Democratic ones.

There is clearly a disconnect we must address in how Americans see clean energy improving their lives. We must continue to popularize, depolarize, and localize the impact of our clean energy transition. And you can help.

The momentum created across the country by the IRA will continue to support communities and make the many benefits of clean energy technology more readily available for all.  As transportation, buildings, and electricity generation still represent over half of our country’s carbon emissions, now more than ever we have to keep the pressure on to make an impact.

Generation180 is steadfast in working with you to accelerate our nation’s ongoing clean energy transition. We’re helping K-12 schools across the country become 100% renewable, accelerating EV adoption and increasing access for all Americans, and creating campaigns to reach new audiences like Climate Cultura engaging LatinX creatives. Our message remains: clean energy is better for individuals, communities, and our planet. Our work is to ensure everyone understands the benefits and the important role individuals and communities can play.

A world powered by clean energy is not only possible, it’s already happening. We will continue to help to accelerate this transition. Reach out to learn more about how you can get involved or donate directly to support our work. Together, we’ve got this.
